Longview, WA - Lower Columbia defeated Chemeketa 3-0 on Tuesday, winning 25-23, 25-22, 30-28. A 9-0 run in the second set moved LCC from an 8-10 deficit to a 17-10 advantage.
After Anna Bushore's kill gave Chemeketa a 5-2 lead, the Red Devils scored the next five points, using kills from Kendall Humphrey and Kennedy Purvis, a Kamryn Sande ace and two Chemeketa attack errors to move in front 7-5. A Humphrey kill later made it 8-6, and LCC built a 14-8 lead on a Karissa Otterstetter-Chesney Schultz block and a Schultz ace before Chemeketa called timeout. Chemeketa erased the gap with six straight points to tie it 16-16, with Shaylee May serving consecutive aces, but Purvis answered with a kill and Paityn Shove added an ace before a Purvis-Lauretta Vasi-Tauki'uvea block helped LCC reach 19-16. The teams traded points until Josalyn Markert's ace tied the set at 23-23, then a Chemeketa attack error put LCC at set point and Vasi-Tauki'uvea finished the 25-23 set with a kill from Otterstetter.

Chemeketa scored the first four points of the second set, but LCC worked back within 10-9 after a Brooklyn Lindsey service error. With Kendal Dean serving, the Red Devils added eight straight points behind two Otterstetter-Schultz blocks, kills from Otterstetter and Humphrey and a Dean ace to move in front 17-10. Chemeketa answered with four straight points to reach 17-14, then LCC pushed back through an Otterstetter kill, an Otterstetter ace, an Ella Eib kill and a Shove ace on the way to a 24-20 edge. After Chemeketa stayed close late and Lindsey served an ace at 24-22, Humphrey finished the set with a kill from Otterstetter for a 25-22 LCC win.
The Red Devils built a 12-8 lead early in the third set after a Chemeketa service error, a Taylin Wright attack error and an Eib kill. Chemeketa came back to tie the set at 13-13 and later moved ahead 18-16 before LCC answered with seven straight points, including kills from Schultz, Eib and Otterstetter, to go in front 23-18. Chemeketa erased that margin with five straight points to tie the set at 23-23, and the teams traded points through a series of late lead changes. After Chemeketa went ahead 28-27, LCC tied it on a Shaylee May attack error, then closed the set 30-28 on kills by Humphrey and Schultz.
Humphrey finished with 10 kills and 10 digs while hitting .391. Otterstetter recorded 20 assists and 14 digs, adding six kills, two aces and three block assists. Sande led LCC with four service aces and collected 14 digs with five assists.
Up next, the Red Devils host Bellevue College on Tuesday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m. at Myklebust Gymnasium in Longview, Washington.
As a team, LCC finished with 35 kills and 11 service aces while holding Chemeketa to a -.019 hitting percentage.
