One of the things I believe strongly is that our Core Values should not just be words on a wall or a page on our website. They should show up in how we work, how we serve, how we communicate, and how we tell the story of the City of Longview.
We recently launched our Values in Action, which takes our Core Values and puts some meaning behind them. What does it actually look like to be innovative? To build trust? To provide excellent service? To be an Employer of Excellence? These values are the standard we are setting for ourselves and the organization we are continuing to build.
Part of putting those values into action is also making sure we are communicating with people where they are.

There is no single place anymore where everyone gets their information. Some residents read the Longview Lowdown. Others follow one or more of our City Facebook pages. Some visit our website when they need something specific. And increasingly, another audience is on LinkedIn.
That is why you will begin seeing more from the City of Longview there.
Our LinkedIn page will be a little different from our other communication channels. Of course, we will share important City information, but we also want to use it to tell the story of Longview as an employer and as an organization.
You will see employee accomplishments, promotions, career opportunities, projects, innovation happening across departments, professional development, partnerships, and some of the people behind the services our community relies on every day.
That connects directly to one of our Core Values: Employer of Excellence.
And that matters for more than recruitment.
The health of a municipal organization has a ripple effect throughout a community. When we attract great employees, invest in them, and create a place where talented people want to stay, our residents benefit from the service they provide. When businesses are considering investing or relocating, the strength and stability of the community and its local government are part of that story too.
So yes, LinkedIn will be another recruitment tool for us. But it is also an economic development tool, an employee recognition tool, and another opportunity to show people what is happening inside their City government.
We have a lot of great work happening across this organization, and we should be willing to tell that story.
I hope you will follow along as we continue putting our Core Values into action and showing what it means to work for, serve, and invest in Longview.
