Saturday roundup: Kelso swimming finishes third at districts

The Kelso swim team finished third at the District 4 Swimming Championships at Gaither Pool on Saturday, claiming 240 points.

Prairie was tops with 331 points and Mountain View was runner-up with 288.

Grant Eastham advanced to the state meet in the 200 Individual Medley and 100 backstroke, finishing in 2 minutes, 8.2 seconds and 58.87, respectively.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Eastham, Mason Montoya, Spencer Thomas, Caden Olson tied for second place in 1:36.39 and the 400 relaya team, made up of the same four swimmers, also finished second in 3:36.75.

The state meet is at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way on Feb. 21 and 22.

2B subregional wrestling The Kalama boys wrestling team finished second at the District 4 subregional meet, finishing with 215 points behind Ilwaco’s 260.

Kalama will send 10 to the regional meet next Saturday at Kalama.

Ian Campbell (138 pounds), Eli Haynes (170) and Sutton Moon (220) were all subregional champs.

Braydon Rauscher (113) and Abe Foreman (160) were finalists, Justin Tucker (126) and Seth Hoseney (285) were fourth and Blake Vandenburg was fifth.

Gino Santi finished in a tie for third and Garrett Karjola tied for fifth at 160.

Marcus Beck (138) and Carson Hoggatt (152) each finished seventh and are alternates for next week’s meet.

Regional matches start at 9:30 a.m. at Kalama.

2A subdistrict wrestlingThe R.A. Long boys wrestled Saturday and secured some qualifiers for the next meet in Tumwater.

In the 126 pound class, Jaime Orozco, junior, took fourth and will wrestle a pigtail match for a spot at Regionals.

Anthony Powell in the 152 class will wrestle this weekend for a regional seed after reaching his match limit.

In 170, sophomore Brock Wilson took fourth and will have a pigtail match.

The 195 class had sophomore Tyler West in third. In the 285 group, Juan Perkins, sophomore, took second and Isaiah Lowery, sophomore, took third.

3A subregional wrestlingThe Kelso boys took a turn on the mat Saturday in the subregional wrestling meet.

Ethan Freund (3-0) placed first with 28.0 team points. He won by fall over Evergreen in the 106 pound category. Giovannie Lopez (3-1) placed third with 20.0 team points in the 106 class.

Ashton Ammons (3-1) got third and scored 20.0 team points in the 113 class. Jared Sanchez (3-2) placed fifth and scored 15.0 team points, also in 113.

In 120, Blake West (1-2) placed sixth with 9.0 team points. Jacob Hughes (2-2) made fifth with 11.0 team points in the 126 pound class. Derick Soto (1-1) placed second in 132 and scored 20.0 team points. Hudson Backman (1-2) placed fourth and scored 13.0 team points.

Jordan Lachine (3-2) placed fourth in 138 category and scored 16.5 team points. In 145, Hayden Hanson (2-2) placed fourth and scored 16.0 team points.

The 152 pound category had Joe Carroll (3-1), who placed third and scored 16.0 team points. David Palmer (2-2) placed fourth and scored 16.0 team points.

In the 170 class, Shale Webb (3-0) placed first and scored 27.0 team points. Michael Hause (2-2) came in fourth and scored 16.0 team points.

Pavel Kolsky (3-1) placed third in 195 and scored 18.0 team points. In 220, Dawson Shoddy (2-2) made fifth and scored 13.0 team points. Brady Phillips (2-1) placed second and scored 22.0 team points in the 285 class.
