With a pair of wins on Wednesday in Montesano, the Castle Rock volleyball team advanced to the 1A District 4 title game.

Castle Rock swept Forks 3-0 (25-13, 25-13, 25-17) to start, then outlasted Elma 3-2 (25-18, 25-27, 22-25, 25-22, 15-12) in a marathon thriller.

Ranae Holter led in the opener with 15 assists, and Logann Golden had 12 kills and four digs, Brooke Wirkkala had six kills and four digs, and Manuela Nasser had seven kills and digs.

In the nightcap, the numbers were even more impressive.

Wirkkala had 20 kills and 10 digs to lead offensively. Golden had 16 kills, 12 digs and seven blocks. Jordyn Burks added nine kills, five blocks and four digs and Sami Jo Crockett had 17 assists and six digs.

Castle Rock now plays King’s Way at home on Saturday at noon for the district crown. Both of the prior meetings went five sets.


The Indians live: The Toledo volleyball team stayed alive in the 2B District 4 volleyball tournament with a pair of wins on Wednesday in South Bend.

The Indians topped Raymond 3-1 (25-19, 23-25, 25-23, 25-19), then swept Northwest Christian 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-19). The Indians are two wins away from third place in the district and a state berth.

In the opener, Rylie Pliler had 10 kills and was 14-of-14 from the service line. Haleigh Holmes pitched in with six kills and Emma Cline-Maier had five kills, 24 assists and was 23-of-24 serving.

Stacie Spahr added five kills and two blocks and Brynn Williams had four kills and nine assists.

In the nightcap, Holmes led with seven kills and was 12-of-13 serving. Spahr had seven kills and was 12-of-13 serving, and Cline-Maier had six kills and 10 assists.

Grcie Madill added five kills and six digs, Pliler had five kills and was 11-of-12 serving and Williams had four kills, 15 assists and was 15-of-16 serving.

Toledo now plays Wahkiakum on Saturday in Raymond at 11:30 a.m. with the winner playing for third place at 2:30 p.m. and the loser going home.

Kalama 3, Wahkiakum 0: The Chinooks used a 25-17, 25-17, 25-11 sweep of the Mules to advance to the 2B District 4 Championship match on Wednesday.

Paige Chinchen led with 18 kills and Marlee Vickers added 11.

Rhegan O’Neil had 32 assists and 12 digs, and Amanda Killinen added 19 digs with Alexi Kaschmitter adding 12.

Kalama plays Mossyrock for the district title on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Raymond.
