Winlock’s Rianna Whitehead has become a dependable scorer as a sophomore guard with the South Puget Sound College women’s basketball team.

Whitehead, who averages 10.4 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists, had a season-high 21 points in a 57-40 loss to Shoreline, and netted 14 points in a 78-52 loss to Everett.

Ex-LCC trio shine

Three former Lower Columbia College guards, Shanay Dotson, Madison Crews and Madison Hinrichs, have all been solid contributors for their respective women’s basketball teams this season.

Dotson, a junior at Northwest Christian University, is averaging 9.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists. She had 21 points and 11 rebounds in a 74-61 loss to Eastern Oergon, and had 15 points and 15 rebounds in an 84-59 win over Walla Walla University. Her coach is former LCC head coach Chad Meadors, and ex-LCC standout Katerina Brejchova is a student assistant.

Dotson is ranked among the top 15 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference in six statistical categories. She’s sixth in minutes played (441), seventh in assists (43) and assist to turnover ratio (1.0), 13th in defensive rebounds (4.4), and 15th in steals (1.6) and blocked shots (0.6).

Crews, a junior at Eastern Oregon University, is averaging 8.8 points and 3.2 rebounds. She exploded for 23 points in a 57-55 victory over Paul Quinn College of Texas. She’s ranked among the top 15 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference in three statistical categories. Crews is second in assist to turnover ratio (1.7), third in assists (3.8), and 13th in three-point shots made (18).

Hinrichs, a senior at Idaho State University, is averaging 8.1 points and 2.0 assists. She had 11 points in a 74-51 loss to Georgia Tech, and 10 points in a 74-60 loss to Utah. In the Big Sky Conference, Hinrichs is ranked fourth in field goal percentage at 52 percent.

Ilwaco’s Makenzie Kaech is averaging 8.0 points and 4.0 rebounds as a freshman forward at Saint Martin’s University. She had 17 points and six rebounds in an 81-68 win over Concordia, and 13 points and seven rebounds in an 81-36 victory over Northwest Christian University. … Rainier’s Desirae Hansen, a freshman at Portland State University, is averaging 6.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists. She had nine points and nine rebounds in a 58-49 triumph over the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. … Wahkiakum’s Baylee Olsen, a senior guard at Cal State San Marcos, is averaging 6.5 points and 3.5 rebounds. She had 15 points in a 79-53 victory over Concordia of California, and 13 points in a 71-69 win over Humboldt State. … Kelso’s Jamilee Iddings, a senior guard at The Master’s University in California, is averaging 6.3 points per game. She netted 11 points in a recent 67-28 win over San Diego Christian. … Another former Wahkiakum standout, Peyton Souvenir, is averaging 4.6 points and 2.2 rebounds as a sophomore guard at Lewis-Clark State College in Idaho. She had seven points in a 70-55 win over The Master’s University.
