Ex-Lower Columbia College standout Brandon Cotton has found his stride as a junior guard with the University of Providence men’s basketball team.
Cotton, who averages 19.3 points and 4.4 assists, exploded for 30 points in a 122-75 over Salish Kootenai of Pablo, Mont. He also had 24-point outings in an 84-73 loss to Carroll College, and in a 96-80 win over Oregon Tech.
Esary dominates with Argos
Kalama graduate Parker Esary is following up her solid freshman season with an equally dominating sophomore campaign with the University of Providence women’s basketball team.
Esary, a preseason all-Frontier Conference pick, is averaging 15.9 points and 10.1 rebounds while twice being named the Frontier Conference Player of the Week.
She has six double-doubles in the team’s first 11 games. She had 27 points and 14 rebounds in a 100-87 win over Arizona Christian, and 14 points and 13 rebounds in a 69-53 win over Yellowstone Christian for the NAIA Division I 13th ranked Argos.
Nationally, she’s ranked first in shooting percentage (.857), and sixth in rebounds per game and blocked shots (4).
Linfield trio contribute
Two Mark Morris graduates, and a former LCC player have been solid contributors with the Linfield College men’s basketball team.
Redshirt junior guard Grant Gibb, a transfer from Eastern Washington University, is averaging 16.9 points and 4.3 rebounds. He had 25 points and seven rebounds in an 85-81 loss to Cal Lutheran, and 22 points in a 112-78 win over the University of La Verne.
Sophomore guard Will Burghardt, a transfer from Hawaii-Hilo, is averaging 14.1 points and 3.3 assists. He had 22 points in the loss to Cal Lutheran, and 19 points in a 98-64 win over Lewis and Clark College.
Ex-LCC forward Marcus Lord, a senior, averages 1.7 points and 1.8 rebounds. He had four points in a 93-60 win over Pacific Lutheran.
Sweet shines in Alaska
MM and LCC grad Spencer Sweet is fitting in well with the University of Alaska-Fairbanks men’s basketball team.
Sweet, a junior guard, is averaging 11.6 points and 2.7 rebounds. He’s had 20-point games in a 68-64 win over Black Hills State, and in a 76-75 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills.

R.A. Long grad Coby Rothwell is averaging 11.6 points as a sophomore with the Highline Thunderbirds men’s basketball team. Rothwell scored 20 points in a 98-91 loss to Bellevue, and had 19 points in a 92-87 win over Walla Walla. … Toledo’s Reese Wallace is a freshman guard playing men’s basketball at Wenatchee Valley College. Wallace is averaging 6.5 points, and netted 10 points in an 85-65 win over Tohono O’odham College in Arizona. … Toutle Lake’s Nathan Hoff is averaging 5.5 points at Centralia College. He had 13 points in a recent 92-80 win over Edmonds. … Another former Toledo player, Junior Arroyo, is a freshman forward at Yakima Valley College. Arroyo is averaging 2.3 points, and had four points in a 105-89 loss to Centralia. ... Kalama’s Blake Stemkoski, a redshirt freshman guard at Clark College, is averaging 0.8 points. He had two points in a 113-37 win over Reed College.
