The Seattle Seahawks thought they had solved their problems stopping the run. But the Seahawks' run defense has been terrible in their past two games, both losses. Josh Jacobs ran for 229 yards in the Raiders' 40-34 win in overtime on Sunday, including 86 yards for the game-winning touchdown. That's the most yards ever by a running back against against Seattle, and the Raiders' 283 total rushing yards were also the most ever allowed by the Seahawks. Seattle fell out of first place in the NFC West. If the Seahawks want to make the playoffs, they'll need to try and fix their run defense again.

Michael Penix Jr. threw for 485 yards and had five total touchdowns, and No. 12 Washington reclaimed the Apple Cup with a wild 51-33 win over Washington State. A year after the Huskies watched the Cougars celebrate snapping a seven-game losing streak on the turf of Husky Stadium, Washington kept alive its hopes for a New Year’s Six bowl game thanks to its standout quarterback and a handful of defensive stops in the second half. Washington outscored the Cougars 23-6 in the second half. Washington’s victory also sent Utah to the Pac-12 championship game as the opponent for Southern California next week in Las Vegas. Cameron Ward threw for 322 yards and two touchdowns for Washington State.

Isaiah Newell ran for the go-ahead touchdown with 8:11 remaining, and No. 22 Oregon State took advantage of critical mistakes in the fourth quarter by No. 10 Oregon to rally for a 38-34 victory. The Beavers trailed 31-10 late in the third quarter and 34-17 early in the fourth, but the Ducks gave their rivals a short field on three consecutive possessions, leading to touchdowns. Oregon can still make the Pac-12 title game but needs Washington State to beat rival Washington. Oregon State ran for 268 yards and five touchdowns, overcoming its lack of a passing game.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Nick Bosa got a hero’s welcome as he arrived at the 49ers’ sideline in the final minutes of Sunday’s eventual win over the New Orleans Saints. Their first shutout in three years was intact, courtesy of his fourth-and-goal sack. More than a decade has come and gone since he last blasted a shoulder pad into anyone, last crumpled some luckless defender to the floor of an NFL stadium, last carried his helmet into that Hall of Fame sunset. You won't be surprised, but they are still putting Alan Faneca back together again. We were going over his surgeries on the phone the other day from Virginia Beach, where the great ...

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Quarterback Sam Darnold, making his first start of the season under center, and the Carolina Panthers capitalized on an under-achieving Denver Broncos team at Bank of America Stadium on Sunday. In a 23-10 victory, Darnold protected the football well and led the Panthers to a home win — Steve Wilks’ third in as many tries as interim head coach — in a stadium draped in orange. ...
