The play had been in the Kansas playbook for years, and it had been practiced so many times it almost seemed like second-nature to the Jayhawks. So when coach Bill Self called “chop” with his team trailing Memphis by three in the closing seconds of the 2008 national title game, Mario Chalmers knew he likely was going to get the shot. Chalmers curled off a screen, teammate Sherron Collins handed him the ball and he drilled the shot to force overtime.

Jan. 3, 1993: Moon and the Oilers built a 35-3 lead in Buffalo in the third quarter of their wild card round playoff game, only to watch the Bills storm back with five straight touchdowns, four of them scoring passes by backup Frank Reich, who had taken over recently for the injured Kelly. The Bills won 41-38 in overtime and the next two games on the road to reach their third of those four straight Super Bowls.

The San Diego Chargers edged the Dolphins 41-38 in overtime at the Orange Bowl in an AFC divisional round game during the 1981 season that has been referred to as "The Epic in Miami." The teams set postseason records for the most points scored, most total yards and most total yards passing.

Hall of Famer Raymond Berry had 12 receptions for 178 yards and a touchdown in the Colts' overtime win over the Giants in 1958. The 12 receptions set a record for a NFL title game that stood for 55 years. It was the last time the championship game needed overtime until Super Bowl 51, when the New England Patriots beat the Atlanta Falcons 34-28.
