The Kelso boys golf team beat Mark Morris 178-185 Tuesday in both teams’ season debuts at Mint Valley Golf Course.
Kelso’s Trevor Hooper took medalist honors with a 40 and Riley Kirk was right behind him with a 41. Kaden Breien and Ryan O’Farrell both shot 45s for the Monarchs.
Mark Morris turns around and hosts W.F. West on Wednesday at the Longview Country Club at 3 p.m., and Kelso is off until Thursday when it visits Skyview at Tri-Mountain Golf Course in Ridgefield at 3:30 p.m.

Woodland 178, Battle Ground 185: Gaige Pilot of Woodland and Alex Salinas of Battle Ground shared medalist honors Tuesday afternoon with matching rounds of 40 at The Cedars Golf Course in both teams’ opener.
Woodland, though, got rounds of 42 from Donovan Hix and 43 from Dane Huddleson to edge the Tigers.
Brendan Beall shot a 45 for Battle Ground and Cade Barker carded a 44.
Woodland hosts the Beaver Cup Jamboree on Thursday at Lewis River on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Gaston 3, Clatskanie 1: The Tigers dropped their home opener in volleyball Tuesday night 21-25, 25-11, 25-20, 25-14 and fell to 0-2 on the young season.
Tigers coach Heather Strong said McKenna Leloff “did great at the net,” and Shelby Blodgett and AnneMarie Davis were outstanding in the back row.
Clatskanie visits Seaside on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
