Clatskanie’s Shelby Blodgett was recently named the Oregon 3A State and the Coastal Range League Player of the Year in softball after a recent balloting of league coaches.

Joining Blodgett on the state and league first team were teammates Maris Jackson, Alexis Smith and Olivia Sprague. Trinity Hamm was also placed on the league’s first team.

Rainier’s Paige Kellar was named to the league first team, and the state’s second team and also earning first-team league accolades were Rainier’s Emmalee Melvin, and Reese Schimmel.

Placing on the league’s second team were Clatskanie’s Jayden Makinson and Kaity Sizemore, and Rainier’s Kim Brusco, Kyla Howell, Taleah King and Rylee O’Brien.

Clatskanie’s Kami Harrison and Sammy Hummer placed on the league’s honorable mention squad.

Clatskanie coach Kevin Sprague was also named the state and league Coach of the Year.

Taft received the league’s Sportsmanship award.

BASEBALL

Hilander Dental goes 1-1: Hilander Dental turned away RBI Baseball, but struggled in a loss to the Vancouver Mavericks in a pair of Senior American Legion matchup during the past week.

On Thursday, Hilander Dental stopped Rural Baseball 5-1. Jake Morrow was 2-3 and scored two runs, Mitchell Bergquist was 2-4 with an RBI, Noah Jenkins hit a two-run double, and Ethan Lindstrom added a two-run single.

Zach Vetter and Cade Warren combined to toss the victory.

On Monday, Hilander Dental fell to the Vancouver Mavericks 6-2.

Luke Brown was 2-4 with an RBI double, Morrow added a double, and Lindstrom stole two bases. Bergquist pitched well in relief.

TRACK

Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships: Six members of the Flanagan Clan Girls Track Club finished first or second in their respective division at the meet which concluded Sunday at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma.

The top eight placers in each event qualify for the Regional Junior Olympics to be held at Mount Tahoma on July 4-7.

In the girls’ 11- 12-year-old division, Elle Peterson won the 80 meter hurdles (13.94 seconds), and placing second were Abigail Heffernan (3000, 12:00.52), and Harley McCants (discus, 57-11).

In the 13-14 division, Josie Settle placed second in the high jump (5-1 1/4), long jump (16-1 1/4) and triple jump (34-7 3/4).

In the 17-18 division, Lauren Kaiser won the 2000 meter steeplechase in 9:07.32, and Roselynn Martin was second in the 1500 in 5:11.37.
