Isaac Garibay netted two goals, and Gustavo Barragan added one as Toledo/Winlock United moved into the district semifinals after a 3-0 opening round victory over Montesano in the Southwest 1A District Tournament on Monday in Winlock.
United (13-0-4) plays Elma in a semifinal game at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Tenino.
Garibay scored in the fourth minute, and again in the 65th minute off an assist from Andreas Malunat. Barragan found the back of the net in the 60th minute.
3A District Championships: Kelso’s Liz Dolan carded a medal round of 78 to take the first day lead in the tournament held at the Tri-Mountain Golf Course on Monday in Ridgefield.
Kiana Coburn of Fort Vancouver is one strike behind Dolan with 79.
Also for Kelso, Kylee Gibbs carded 111, Kelli Rakoz had 113, and Grace Forster added 119.
The tournament concludes today.
Woodland 9, R.A. Long 0: Kaily Christensen slugged a pair of solo home runs, and Olivia Grey twirled a one-hitter for Woodland in a Greater St. Helens 2A League game on Monday in Woodland.
Christensen was 3-4 and scored four runs. Also for the Beavers (16-0, 10-0 league), Carleigh Risley was 3-3 with a home run and four RBIs, Chloe Eddy was 2-4 with two runs and an RBI, and Payten Foster was 2-4 with an RBI.
Grey finished with 11 strikeouts.
For RAL (9-9, 5-6 league), Rayana Randall had a single.
Mark Morris 15, Washougal 4: The Monarchs took advantage of 13 hits and 11 Panthers’ errors in a Greater St. Helens 2A League game on Monday in Washougal.
Stephanie Burns gave up three earned runs on 11 hits with six strikeouts and two walks in the win. At the plate, Burns was 2-5 with a double and two RBIs, Kersyn Teigen was 2-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs, and Sara Todd was 2-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Star Littleleaf and Avery Pense were each 2-5 and scored two runs and knocked in a run apiece, Breanne Cereenwelt scored two runs, Kaitlyn Weatherby hit a double, and Halle Giles scored two runs and had an RBI.
MM is now 5-13 overall, 3-7 in league.
Clatskanie 11, Kennedy 2: Shelby Blodgett scattered three hits and struck out 10 as the Tigers claimed a nonleague victory on Monday at Clatskanie.
Jaydin Makinson paced Clatskanie (17-0, 8-0 league), going 3-4 with a double and two RBIs. Kaity Sizemore was 2-3 with a double and two RBIs, Sammie Hummer was 2-3 with three runs and an RBI, and Maris Jackson was 2-4 with a double and two RBIs.
TL, Winlock players are first-teamers: Toutle Lake’s Katelynn Redmill, Keeley Studebaker-Smith, and Winlock’s Jenna Jones were named to the all-Central 2B League first-team in volleyball after a balloting of league coaches.
Placing on the league’s second-team were Toledo’s Kyleigh Holmes, Haleigh Holmes, and TL’s Kendal Bennett. Named to the league’s third-team were TL’s Maddie Hald, Sienna Rudd, and Winlock’s Karlie Jones. Placing on the honorable mention team are Toledo’s Brynn Williams, Kalama’s Paige Chinchen and Rhegan O’Neil, and TL’s Kaylee Florek, Casey Wentz and Jasmine Smith.
Adna dominated the league’s major awards. Hailey Rainey was named MVP, and Bruce Pocklington was tabbed Coach of the Year.
Kalama’s Wilson, Walker grab top honors: Hayden Wilson was named league Most Valuable Player, and Chinooks’ coach Brandon Walker was named Coach of the Year for Central 2B League baseball after a recent vote of league coaches.
Named to the league’s first-team were Kalama’s Tommy Brandenburg, Brennon Vance and Bradey Vance, and Wahkiakum’s James Anderson, Luke Brown and Ashden Niemeyer.
Placing on the league’s second-team were Kalama’s Alex Dyer and Chase Staup, Toledo’s Hunter Eaton, Ridge Moss of Toutle Lake, and Wahkiakum’s Beau Carlson.
Named to the honorable mention team were Kalama’s Shayden Jones and Noah Imboden, Toledo’s Jesse Towns and Matt Stavig, Toutle Lake’s Logan Grabenhorst and Jackson Cox, Wahkiakum’s Tristan Collupy, and Winlock’s Nathan Suhrbier.
