Castle Rock’s Brooke Wirkkala was a triple-winner in the girls’ portion of a six-team track meet held Thursday in Napavine.

Kalama won the girls’ meet with 147 points, followed by Napavine with 127. CR was third with 122, and Winlock placed sixth with 21.

Wirkkala won the high jump (5-feet), long jump (16-1) and triple jump (32-7). Also winning for the Rockets were the 4x100 relay of Veda Frost, Kenya Acosta, Shelby Morrison and Rachel Anderson in 55.6 seconds, and the 4x200 relay of Aarin Sturm, Morrison, Lucy Warner and Electra Duus in 2:01.61.

Kalama’s Melanie Martinez won the 200 (27.66) and 400 (1:06.29), and Matti Olson was first in the 1600 (6:21.18) and 3200 (13:58.64). Bethany Lozier won the pole vault at 7-9, and Brianna Abbott was tops in the 800 in 2:45.08.

Winlock had no winners. Azhia Camps was third in the discus at 78-1.

In the boys’ meet, Kalama outdistanced Napavine 167.5-95. Winlock was fourth with 72.5, and CR was fifth with 71.

Kalama’s Richard Beverage won the 110 hurdles (16.23), 300 hurdles (41.68), and teamed with Jujstin Tucker, Colby Tucker and Rylan Green to win the 4x400 relay in 3:47.68. Nathan Anderson won the javelin with a toss of 157-9.

CR’s Wyatt Partridge won the 200 in 23.86, and teamed with Brady Bach, Noah Botten and Seth Werly to take the 4x100 relay in 45.77.

Winners for Winlock were Sam Howsden (800, 2:26.54), Noah Patching (1600, 4:58.05), and Bryce Cline (high jump, 6-feet).


Kelso 22, Fort Vancouver 4 (5 innings): Nick Miller was 3-3 with two doubles, four runs scored and four RBIs as the Hilanders breezed to a Greater St. Helens 3A League game on Thursday in Vancouver.

Kelso had 20 hits. Trevor Hartley was 3-3 with a double, three runs and two RBIs, Alex Ransom was 2-5 with two doubles, two runs and three RBIs, and Tanner Davis was 2-4 with two RBIs. Seth Sutherby was 2-2 with three runs, Rees Hall and Hunter Rios each hit 2-2, and Mike Murray scored two runs.

Jase Schueller allowed four earned runs on two hits with a strikeouts through two innings, and Trevor Torppa pitched three innings of one-hit relief with seven strikeouts.

Kalama 11, La Center 1: Brennon Vance was 3-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and scored three runs as the Chinooks ran away to a nonleague victory on Thursday in La Center.

Kalama had 13 hits. Tommy Brandenburg and Hayden Wilson were each 2-3 with two doubles, two runs and an RBI, Alex Dyer was 2-2, and Jackson Hull, Chase Staup and Bradey Vance added a double apiece.

Staup started and allowed two hits and struck out one through three innings, Wilson allowed a hit in an inning of relief, and Shayden Jones allowed three hits and an earned run on an inning of work.

Castle Rock 12, Toutle Lake 3: Skyler McQuilliams, Austin McQuilliams, Ethan Perdue and Cole Hooper had three hits apiece as the Rockets claimed a nonleague victory on Thursday at home.

Hooper was 3-4 with three RBIs, Skyler McQuilliams was 3-3 with two RBIs, Perdue was 3-4 with two RBIs and two runs, and Austin McQuilliams was 3-4 with two runs. Erik Titus was 2-3 with three runs and two RBIs.

Titus allowed two earned runs on five hits through 4 1/3 innings, and Perdue tossed 2 2/3 hitless relief innings with three strikeouts.

The Ducks had five hits. Jackson Cox was 2-4 with an RBI, and Logan Grabenhorst scored two runs.

Grabenhorst pitched two innings, allowing two earned runs on seven hits with two strikeouts, and Austin Sweet pitched foure relief innings and allowed five earned runs on nine hits with two strikeouts.

Hockinson 5, R.A. Long 1: The Lumberjacks were held to three hits in a Greater St. Helens 2A League loss on Thursday at the Lumberyard.

Westin Scheurich drove in RAL's run, and Ryan Plampin, Tanner Allen and Jadon Williamson had one hit apiece.

Kevin Barnett started and allowed an earned run on two hits with two strikeouts through four innings, and Scheurich tossed three innings of one-hit relief with two earned runs and three strikeouts.

Clatskanie 10, Yamhill-Carlton 2: The Tigers took advantage of eight hits and seven errors to post a nonleague victory on Thursday in Clatskanie.

Olivia Sprague was 2-3 and scored two runs, Alexis Smith hit a solo home run, and Trinity Hamm added a double. Kaity Sizemore scattered five hits and struck out six in the win.

Ridgefield 8, R.A. Long 0: A five-run third inning was more than the Lumberjills could endure in a Greater St. Helens 2A League game on Thursday in Ridgefield.

Kamryn Holmdahl was 2-3 for RAL, with Cassidy Donaldson, Hope Childers and McKinzie Todd adding a hit apiece. Lexie Strahan scattered 15 hits and struck out five in the loss.


Winlock/Toledo United 1, Seton Catholic 0: Andreas Malunat scored in the 64th minute and a clean sheet with 12 saves from Alan Contreras ensured that was all United needed for a Trico 1A League road win Thursday. Thomas Ethridge assisted on the goal. With the win, United also captured its third consecutive league title. United (10-0-4, 10-0) travels to Castle Rock on Tuesday before hosting La Center for the regular season finale Thursday.

R.A. Long 3, Hockinson 1: Julio Radillo scored his first varsity goal in the 15th minute of the Lumberjacks’ Greater St. Helens League 2A road win Thursday. Amilyonno Puc scored in the 55th minute to break a halftime tie and then Ethan Chung scored on a header not long after. The Jacks (6-8-1, 5-6) are currently the fourth seed in league and finish their season Tuesday against Mark Morris at Longview Memorial Stadium.

Mark Morris 1, Woodland 0: The Monarchs made five shootout goals compared to three for the Beavers in a Greater St. Helens 2A League match on Thursday.

Standouts for the Beavers were Axel Varela Sanchez and Jackson Finn.


Ridgefield 195, R.A. Long 231: Josie Nickerson shot a 47 and Mary Knowles shot a 55 as the Lumberjills sustained a Greater St. Helens League 2A loss at Mint Valley on Thursday. Piper Nguyen shot a 56 and Kobey Roberts finished with a 62.

Ilwaco Incomplete, North Beach Incomplete: Maggie Jacobson medaled with a 50 in Ilwaco’s Pacific 2B League win at Surfside on Thursday. Sunny Kemmer shot a 53 and Gabby Bell finished with a 56.

Columbia River 208, Woodland 235: The Beavers came out on the wrong end of a Greater St. Helens 2A League match on Thursday at the Tri-Mountain Golf Course in Ridgefield.

Mark Morris 211, Hockinson 233: The Monarchs picked up a Greater St. Helens 2A League victory on Thursday at The Cedars in Brush Prairie.

Ilwaco 206, North Beach 227: Blake Kukula medaled with a 38 in Ilwaco’s Pacific 2B League win at Surfside on Thursday. Tennyson Ramsey shot a 51, Charlie Short finished with a 52, and Faith Richardson played on the boys team for the day, shooting a 65.

Wahkiakum at Life Christian: The Mules and Eagles split a pair of nine-hole matches on Thursday at the Tumwater Valley Golf Course.

Wahkiakum lost the front nine match 188-192, can claimed the back nine contest 169-201.

In the opener, Tyler St. Onge was medalist with 39, Zach Johnston shot 48, Logan LaBerge had 51, and Elijah Doiron added 54.

On the back nine, LaBerge claimed his first match medal with 39. St. Onge carded 40, Johnston added a 44, and Joseph Savelio finished with 46.


Kelso 4, Evergreen 3: The Lassies picked up a Greater St. Helens 3A League victory on Thursday in Vancouver.
