CLATSKANIE— A battle between No. 1 and No. 3 turned into a blowout Friday night, as the Clatskanie girls basketball team avenged a Jan. 21 loss by whipping Willamina Friday night, 43-21.
“We just had to be focused and ready to come out and play our game. We had a little bit of a chip on our shoulder. It’s a great win for us and one that we needed,” said Clatskanie junior Shelby Blodgett, who led all scorers with 13 points.

Tight defense on both sides kept the game close much of the first half, which ended with the Lady Tigers leading 17-10. But Willamina continued turning the ball over and scored only five points in the third quarter, allowing Clatskanie to pull away.
Clatskanie coach John Blodgett credited his team’s strong defense to “a solid and energetic week of practice.”
No. 1 Clatskanie (16-2, 5-1 in league) will face Willamina (17-5, 6-1 in league) again on Feb. 22 in McMinnville in a game that likely will decide the league and district titles.
