Lower Columbia College opened with a loss to top-ranked Spokane, but bounced back to eliminate Blue Mountain during the second day of the NWAC Volleyball Championships on Friday at the Greater Tacoma Convention Center.
Tenth-ranked LCC (29-9) lost to Spokane 25-20, 25-16, 25-18, and beat Blue Mountain in the consolation bracket 23-25, 25-22, 15-13. The Red Devils face West Region rival Tacoma at 10 a.m. Saturday in the tournament. During the regular season, LCC beat the Titans 3-1 at home on Sept. 26, and lost 3-1 on Oct. 19 in Tacoma.
In the Blue Mountain match, Ashlynn Cantwell had 14 kills, 16 digs, two aces and two block assists, and Megan Miller had seven kills, three solo blocks and two block assists. Paige Moorcroft had six kills and two block assists, Cassidy Thompson had three kills and 12 digs, and Haley Paul added three kills and 15 digs. Deserae Reab had three kills and two block assists, and Macey Wright added two kills, 31 assists and eight digs.
Against Spokane, Miller had nine kills and two block assists, Cantwell had six kills and nine digs, Thompson had five kills and nine digs, and Reab added five kills. Wright had 25 assists and 10 digs, Paul had 20 digs, and Maddie Stimmel had six digs.
Skyview 1970, Mark Morris 1731: Madi Flint carded 183-328, and Hailee Reynolds added 166-323 as the Monarchs dropped a nonleague match at Crosley Bowl on Friday in Vancouver. MM is now 1-2.
R.A. Long 1497, Heritage 1365: The Lumberjills claimed a nonleague victory at Big Al’s on Friday in Vancouver. RAL is now 2-3.
WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL
LCC falls twice: The Lower Columbia College Red Devils dropped games to Cochise and Pima colleges during the first two days of competition in the Eastern Arizona Classic in Thatcher, Ariz. LCC (0-2) fell to Pima 85-72 on Friday, and fell to Cochise 78-27 on Thursday.
Pima, a 14th-ranked NJCAA Division II school, forced 26 turnovers. The Aztecs led 16-14 after the first quarter, and 65-44 entering the final 10 minutes. On Thursday against 23rd-ranked NJCAA Division I Cochise, the Red Devils were outscored 14-0 after the first quarter, 43-4 at halftime, and 62-9 after three quarters.
The Red Devils play tournament host Eastern Arizona today.
