Wahkiakum punched their ticket to state with a decisive 61-25 win over South Bend in the Southwest 2B District Tournament win at W.F. West on Wednesday. Ellie Leitz scored 21 points and grabbed 14 rebounds while Paige Mace divvied nine assists and Macie Elliott tallied 11 points.

Mckensi Fluckiger also sank three first-quarter 3s, and provided a big boost as South Bend scored 17 points over the first eight minutes.

“We started off kind of shaky,” coach Rob Garrett said. “Giving up 17 like that isn’t something we’re accustomed to.”

Garrett noted that guard Charlie Ashe defended South Bend’s top scorer, Karley Reidinger, holding the top shooting threat to only six points.

The Mules will play again Friday in the district semifinals.

Willamina 43 Rainier 37: The Columbians season ends, but the girls left it on the floor in a Coastal Range League 3A playoff loss at Willamina on Wednesday. Hannah Farrell led the team with 13 points and added five steals and five assists. Hannah Biddix grabbed six rebounds.

“They played well tonight,” coach Doug Knox said. “We just needed a few things to go our way down the stretch and it didn’t”

Naselle vs. Mary M. Knight: No information was available from the Comets’ district game on Wednesday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Life Christian Academy 67, Winlock 47: The Cardinals sustained a Southwest 2B District Tournament loss at Montesano on Wednesday and will play Morton/White Pass on Friday in a loser-out game. Bryce Cline led Winlock with 17 points, and Noah Patching added six points.

Naselle 80, Mary M. Knight 40: The Comets started slow but finished strong in a Southwest 1B District Tournament victory in Oakville on Wednesday. Kolby Glenn finished with 18 points, Antonio Nolan and Cole Dorman each had 13 and Jacob Eaton finished with 12. Corey Gregory added 11 points.

The Comets move into the district championship game against Taholah.

MEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL

Lower Columbia 83, Pierce 67: Samaad Hector had a huge double-double with 21 points and 19 rebounds, and three other Red Devils scored in double-figures in an NWAC West Region victory on Wednesday at Truman Myklebust Gymnasium.

LCC (15-9, 5-5 region) made 48 percent of its shots (31-65), and outrebounded the Raiders 50-35. Pierce made 34 percent of its shots, 24-70.

Also for the Red Devils, Seth Hall scored 15 points, dished four assists and blocked two shots, Bricin Ford had 15 points and seven rebounds, and Alec Canete-Hall had 11 points and six assists. Martis Johnson grabbed nine rebounds, and Devonte Dennis had three assists.

LCC hosts Grays Harbor on Saturday.

WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL

Lower Columbia 86, Pierce 48: The Red Devils post duo of Nizhoni Wheeler and Madeline Jacobson combined to 36 points and 12 rebounds in an NWAC West Region victory on Wednesday at Truman Myklebust Gymnasium.

Wheeler finished with 22 points and four rebounds, and Jacobson had 14 points, eight rebounds and blocked three shots.

LCC (16-9, 8-2 region) made 51 percent of its shots (37-73), while holding the Raiders to 29 percent shooting, 19-65. The Red Devils also won the battle of the boards, 47-29.

Also for the Red Devils, Emily Packham had 12 points and four assists, and Kenya Lorton had 10 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three steals. Shasta Lofgren had nine rebounds and four assists, Jerri Maluyo had five rebounds and seven assists, and Madison Mosier added five rebounds and five assists.

LCC hosts Grays Harbor on Saturday.
