Although I'm not fully convinced, I sincerely want to believe that the proposed methanol facility in Kalama would be everything proponents claim it would be. My reason for writing this letter may be considered off target, but I have not read or heard any messaging regarding the impacts of increased train traffic in Cowlitz County. For those of us who have to cross railroad tracks as a regular part of driving, train traffic is already a problem — especially when they stop and block roads. I hope BNSF, or other rail companies, has been involved in planning for this facility. Are there expectations that they need to make changes to how they will move through our communities so as not to increase the issue of blocking roads? Since they will benefit monetarily from increased business, they should be expected to do whatever it takes, including bridges and tunnels, to prevent increased train traffic from making it more difficult for motor vehicle traffic.
