As we celebrate our country’s independence, let’s remember the struggles millions of families are having keeping a home. Cody Wells ("Celebrate," The Daily News letters to the editor, June 21 mentions being sure to have a fun Fourth, but remember to clean up. Great advice. How about taking action to make a difference for the 11 million families who pay more than 50 percent of their income for rent? No wonder so many become homeless. A renter's tax credit would help these folks not have to choose between food or housing, or other basic needs. We can make a difference by asking those who represent us in Congress to pass a renter's tax credit. Our calls and letters will help create the political will to do just that. Why not make it part of your celebration of our democracy (with thanks to those who came before us)? We have this right to speak up.
