This letter to the editor is in response to the article (The Daily News, Nov. 29) about Dean Takko and the Kalama methanol refinery.

Takko, if you are a true Democrat, why aren’t you supporting the platform? It states: “We must strive to be responsible stewards of the environment, our communities, and our planet. We must proactively address climate change as a crisis. All people, including future generations, have the right to clean air, water, and a healthy natural environment.”

China’s Northwest Innovation Works has not come to Kalama to promote the improvement of our air and water. They see a good deal for themselves — requesting millions of dollars in tax exemptions and loans, as well as millions of taxpayer dollars to build infrastructure needs. The project would use huge amounts of our clean water, gas and electricity to produce methanol to make plastics or sell as fuel for China’s benefit.

China has poisoned their country — now they intend to pollute ours.
