Regarding The Daily News' Nov. 20 story announcing "Commissioners to make final vote on future of Headquarters Landfill" at 7 p.m. Nov. 27.
This vote is supposed to be based on input from the public during this meeting. It appears that the timing of Commissioner Dennis Weber's request for a final vote at this meeting was selected because people would be (a) out of town, (b) concentrating on Black Friday sales, (c) visiting with friends or relatives or (d) that many older people don't attend evening commissioner meetings which occur after dark — or a combination of any of the above.
In addition, he knew he could depend on Commissioner Arne Mortensen's support.
I strongly agree with Commissioner Joe Gardner's opposition to privatizing the landfill.
It is time Commissioners Weber and Mortensen put the residents of Cowlitz County's interests ahead of their own personal interests.
