Letters: Out of business

I find it interesting that Mr. Karnofski is now opposed to a private company operating the landfill. In November 2017 he wrote, along with three other former commissioners, a letter to the current board of commissioners suggesting that a sale was not a good idea, however a private operator of the landfill should be considered. Now he is part of a coalition opposed to any change at the landfill. Why the change of heart? Maybe the county’s review committee didn’t pick the company that he wanted.

No matter. Any way that you look at it, this public-private partnership with Republic gets the county out of the landfill business and more importantly the politics of landfills. Mr. Karnofski bought the landfill when we didn’t want it, tried to sell it right after we purchased it, and has poorly handled the Mount Solo Landfill.

Isn’t it time that we get the county out of the landfill business? We need professionals that actually know what they are doing.
