Your front page article of Nov 14 regarding the methanol refinery proposed to be built in Kalama would have been better placed on the editorial page. The so-called “study” is full of assumptions that many people will take as true because you reported it on the front page . The 1.1 million tons of green-house-gases (GHG) in your article understates the real amount of GHG pollution created by this monster refinery, it’s fracked sources, and shipping to their owners in China. Also the assumption that this polluting and dangerous refinery would displace plants in China is speculation. There is nothing in the EIS that specifies plants in China using coal will be shut down. Therefore, there is no proof the methanol refinery will reduce GHG pollution as your article suggests.
