As a citizen of Longview, I have always been proud of the beauty and upkeep of Lake Sacajawea. I've been in other states and talked with people who only remember our town by sightseeing as they travel the byways to our coastal towns or connecting to Oregon. For this reason, I feel it necessary for the homeless population to find a new place to "hang out." The covered area and the public bathrooms are for resting and restroom relief for travelers, and a place where adults can hang out as the children play. It may not be the city's responsibility to find a more suitable place for them, but is our city's responsibility to preserve the lake's beauty and how it is perceived by travelers who may never see the rest of our town. I believe we all want our Lake Sacajawea (in sightseeing guides) to be worthy of seeing.
