In a Nov. 16 story in The Daily News, it was reported that Jaime Herrera Beutler repeated her criticism of the impeachment inquiry during her Nov. 15 telephone “town hall.”

She said the process is not a “truly impartial fact finding.” Private meetings are held in secretive rooms, the information has not been publicly released, and many Congress members have not been allowed to view primary sources. She has called the inquiry a “farce.”

These are Republican talking points about the process and JHB knows better. If she had been talking to constituents at a real town meeting, she would have been reminded of the facts.

Those secretive rooms - (A Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) - are used when dealing with sensitive information. Republican members and staff of the House Intelligence, Oversight and Foreign Affairs Committee are in these “private” meetings asking questions. The first transcripts of these meetings were released on Nov. 4, and the first public hearing started the day before she held her telephone town hall.

Who is really perpetuating the farce?

Laurel A. Murphy
