One thing we in the Pacific Northwest do better than anyone else in the world is grow grass. Thick, green, and predatory, it invades every crevice and open space, and sprouts from our sidewalks and foundations. When the great civilizations of Central and South America died, their great works were devoured by jungle. When civilization dies here (which is imminent — just look at Seattle and Portland) our cities will no doubt be subsumed by grass.
So why in the world are Longview voters being asked to approve a bond issue to put artificial turf in Memorial Stadium?
