Letters: Darkest of times

We are living in the darkest of times, and we are losing a sense of what is sacred. Truth is becoming subjective and made to fit what pleases the eye of the beholder. The soul of our nation is becoming sickened because of the lies we allow ourselves to believe.

In watching the proceedings from Washington, D.C., recently, it became obvious that following one's conscience and convictions no longer matter; and being guided by the precepts and principles of our faith, are not important. Words such as integrity, honor and character are not held in high regard.

However, “through the darkest of times, one must remember to turn on the light.” Sen. Mitt Romney did just that during the impeachment proceedings. He turned on the light of truth, freedom and justice. He truly was “a profile of courage” as he followed his conscience and refused to “stand with the team.”

Mitt Romney knows well that “speaking truth to power” has its consequences. He has already received threats from the president, the public and members of his own party.

We pray for his safety.
