Regarding the Oregonian article in The Daily News on August 10, 2019, and previously, on August 7th, the TDN editorial, “Dubious study on breaching is propaganda,” repeated from the Walla Walla Union-Bulletin, it seems the vested interests/establishment are out to defang the well-documented and researched study done by the ECONorthwest on why it would be better for humankind to get rid of the four dams on the Snake River.
The report is 179 pages of well-thought out analyses of all facets of the pros and cons of why the dams should be or should not be removed. The bottom line is — all four dams should be removed, starting immediately, not 20 years or 40 years from now. Previous studies by the Army Corps of Engineers used study methods that were insufficient to render a proper and thorough analysis.
Furthermore, the editorial by the Walla Walla Union-Bulletin skims the surface of falsehood and downright prevarication, in that its point of view is though the lens of vested interests in the region, and nothing resembling objectivity. The dams must be removed. Until and unless those who oppose removal come up with a more compelling study to prove why they should not be breached, they should be neutral on the matter.
