What does icy windy Troutdale have over Longview and Kalama?

Surely not an easier route to the airport in winter. Yet, Troutdale managed to get 750 clean UPS jobs for their Reynolds/Alcoa plant and have enjoyed those 750 jobs for almost 20 years, while we are still hoping for either 125 jobs at Millennium Bulk Terminals or about 200 jobs at the Kalama methanol plant.

Coal at Millennium would clog shipping, damage the fishing industry and put three inches of coal dust in yards within five miles, according to their own report. The methanol plant is owned by the First National Bank of China and instead of the creative wonderful industries their culture has to offer, it would kill marine life in 199,000 gallons of water per one gallon spilled.

The Daily News printed it would be the 11th dirtiest plant in Washington state, and that would kill tourism dollars which a conservative group said makes more money in this state than most leading industries. It would put two thirds of the methane that powers warships in the hands of the Chinese and could cost millions of lives as opposed to only 200 jobs created.

An engineer said it will eventually cost a billion dollars. So, who will pay?
