Indoor shooting range

The City of Longview has found that a planned indoor shooting range will not harm the environment.

The City of Longview on Thursday announced its environmental review of a planned indoor shooting range found the proposed facility will not harm the environment.

The range, located at 645 California Way, will also include a parking lot and stormwater treatment facility, according to the city. Inside the building, there will be training classrooms, a retail shop and a shooting gallery. (See attached environmental review.)

Jason Smith of Jakers Properties LLC is the proponent of the project.

The building is 20,000 square feet on the first floor with less than 3,000 square feet of undeveloped space in the second story for future use. The lot size is about 105,000 square feet.

The site is zoned for mixed-use commercial and industrial uses with a commercial/industrial classification.

Nearby, there are industrial warehouses, vacant land, equipment sales business and the unimproved Beech Street right of way, according to the city.

Construction is scheduled to finish by spring 2020.

Comments on the project's environmental review can be submitted to the city no later than 6 p.m. on Oct. 24.
