A major water main break around 3 p.m. Saturday in the 1400 block of Burcham in Kelso shut off water to residents in the Butler Acres neighborhood.
Public Works Superintendent Randy Johnson said the pipe likely burst due to old age. He expected to have it repaired and flowing again by midnight on Saturday.
Johnson said the city was still investigating how the pipe burst and how many people it would impact.
"We don’t really know what we’re up against yet other than quite a few people will be without water," he said.
