Victim in train fatality identified

The Cowlitz County Coroner’s Office has released the name of the woman who died when she was struck by a freight train Monday afternoon.

Alissa Marie Brech, 40, died instantly from blunt force trauma, and her death has been ruled an accident, Coroner Tim Davidson said Tuesday morning.

Brech, who is listed as a Kelso-area transient, failed to beat the train across the tracks and was struck in the 400 block of North Pacific Avenue just after 2:30 p.m., Davidson said.

Her family, which includes a mother in Kelso, has been notified, he added.

Brech, according to Daily News archives, was a Kelso High School graduate whose life had been marked by previous tragedy. Her father, Ricky Dean Brech, suffered from alcoholism and was found stabbed to death in the Cowlitz River in 2003. Alissa was his only child, and she was reportedly very close to her dad.
