The United Way of Cowlitz and Wahkiakum Counties is now accepting applications for federal Phase 36 Emergency Food and Shelter Program funds.

This year, Cowlitz County will receive about $63,600 to assist local emergency food and shelter programs, according to a United Way press release.

United Way manages the funding process and a local board determines how the money will be distributed.

Organizations qualify for the funds if they are private voluntary nonprofits or units of government; are eligible to receive federal funds; have an accounting system; practice non-discrimination; have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs; and if they are a private voluntary organization, have a voluntary board.

Applications are available at www.cowlitzunitedway.org. Submissions can be emailed to bfisher@cowlitzunitedway.org or mailed to United Way of Cowlitz & Wahkiakum Counties, 1338 Commerce Ave., Suite 206, Longview, WA, 98632.

The deadline to submit an application is Thursday, July 11.
