Longview on parade

Hundreds of brightly-colored lights and a pair of antlers transform a Lower Columbia College Head Start bus into a holiday float for the 2017 downtown Longview Christmas parade.

The 38th annual Longview Twilight Christmas Parade takes place on Saturday, Dec. 1.

The parade, which raises money for the Longview Downtowners to decorate the downtown area, already has 50 entries, and typically 90 to 100 entries join the parade from downtown to the Longview Civic Circle, said Alice Dietz, spokeswoman for the Cowlitz PUD.

Anyone wanting to enter the parade can sign up at cowlitzpud.org. The utility is organizing the parade for a fourth year.

The parade starts at 5 p.m. at the corner of Commerce Avenue and Florida Street, proceeds up Commerce Avenue, heads west (left) on Maple Street, south (left again) on 14th Avenue and west (right) on Broadway before ending at the Civic Center and R.A. Long Park.

In the park, the public will get to look over the city of Longview's new gazebo, and the Lower Columbia College Choir, Bella Voce, will sing Christmas carols. Altrusa will make free hot chocolate available.
