A dispute about a refund at the Triangle Bowl in Longview led to a felony gun stop in the 3000 block of Ocean Beach Highway early Sunday.

According to the Longview Police Department, several officers responded after a customer reported to a Chevron worker that there was talk of a gun associated with a yellow van parked near one of the gas pumps.

When officers arrived, a 25 year-old Longview man told officers that the driver of a yellow van had been following him northbound on 15th Avenue and displayed a gun. He later recanted and told police he had only seen a knife.

The yellow van then left the scene, heading westbound on Ocean Beach Highway. Officers stopped the vehicle, a yellow Service Master van, and had the driver, an adult woman passenger and three juveniles get out. An officer found a 9 mm pistol under a seat; the gun was taken for safekeeping.

Officers arrested the van’s driver, Wyatt L. Simpson, 34, of Kelso on suspicion of driving under the influence of intoxicants and three counts of reckless endangerment.

A responding officer noted that less than 10 minutes prior, Simpson had been in an intense verbal dispute at the Triangle Bowl with the 25-year-old man.
