Toledo gets cheesy this week for its annual Cheese Days festival, the city’s biggest summer celebration.

The weekend’s big events are on Saturday, but Cheese Days begins on Thursday with the Kick Off Celebration at 6 p.m. at the Morgan Arts Center.

The Toledo Made market at Art Gallery 505 will be open all four days, offering arts, crafts, gifts and other products made by Toledo-area residents. It’s open from 1 to 6 p.m. each day except Saturday, when it begins at 11 a.m.

Friday’s festivities include the 23rd Annual “Cheddar Open” Golf Tournament, tennis tournament, frog jumping contest and bingo.

Activities kick off early Saturday morning with a variety of breakfast options, including an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast at the Toledo Senior Center starting at 7 a.m. and a breakfast buffet at Bonanza BBQ starting at 6 a.m.

The 19th Annual Car and Motorcycle Show kicks off at 7 a.m. at the Toledo Middle School field. Food and other vendors will also be set up at the show starting at 9 a.m.

The Kids Fun Fest, offering games for kids, runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Toldeo Middle School Gym.

The Cheddar Challenge three-mile race begins at 8 a.m., with registration from 6:45 to 7:45 at the Toledo Fire Station. The race is sponsored by the Toledo Girls Softball program and costs $10 or $18 with a t-shirt.

The Cheese Days Parade begins at 11 a.m. and runs from Fifth Street and Augustus Street and moves east on Augustus to Second, continues south on Second to Oak, then west on Oak to Fifth. The parade marshals are the 2019 “Big Cheeses” Denny Clark, Mick Filla and Tom Lahmann.

Afternoon events include a barbecue at Toledo Market Fresh, community auction, class reunions and fire department open house. A wine and cheese tasting at the Toledo Boat Launch runs from 4 to 8 p.m.

The Broken Trail band will perform at 8 p.m. at Donna’s Place Bar and Grill.

Saturday night festivities finish off with a midnight dance free for all ages from 9 p.m. to midnight at the Toledo Market Fresh parking lot.

Sunday’s events mainly take place at the Kemp Olson Toledo Community Park, including a horseshoe tournament, all-class reunion, Toledo Lions Club beef barbecue, Lioness Club of Toledo’s cheesecake by the slice and the 15th Annual Pie Auction.

Cheese Days began in 1919 with the opening of the Cowlitz Valley Cheese Association’s factory in Toledo.

23nd Annual “Cheddar Open” Golf Tournament: Registration starts at 9 a.m. Shotguns start at 10 a.m. Proceeds go to the Toledo Lions Club. $60 entry. Newaukum Valley Golf Course.

Tennis Tournament: 3 p.m. Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, Mixed Doubles. $5 entry per event.

Frog Jumping Contest 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Frogs available for rent. Cash prizes. $1.00 per frog per race at the Toledo High School Track Field.

Bingo: 6:30 to 9 p.m. Proceeds go to Toledo Youth Soccer Club. At the Toledo High School Multipurpose Room.

Saturday, July 13

Ham & All-You-Can-Eat Pancake Breakfast: 7 to 10:30 a.m. $5 donation at the Toledo Senior Center.

Breakfast Buffet: 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Bonanza BBQ, 102 Kellogg Way.

19th Annual Car & Motorcycle Show: 7 a.m. Sponsored by the Toledo Lions Club and over 150 local businesses. $20 fee to enter your vehicle, awards at 3 p.m. at the Toledo Middle School Field.

Toledo Cheese Days Parade: 11 a.m. Theme: “Welcome Home.” Trophies presented to the 1st and 2nd place winners of each division at the judges booth, located at the Presbyterian Church.

Toledo Fire Department Open House: 12:30 p.m. Cooling station, kids activities, meet a firefighter.

Barbecue: noon to 5 p.m. featuring baby-back ribs, corn on the cob, potato salad, beans, rolls, and soda. At Toledo Market Fresh. $9 per person.

Community Auction: 1 p.m. at the Toledo Middle School Field.

THS Class Reunions at the Senior Center: Classes of 1955, 1956 and 1957 will meet 1 to 5 p.m. Class of 1959’s 60th Reunion will meet 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Wine and Cheese Tasting Garden: 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Toledo Boat Launch.
