Wreck on I-5 injures three

A wreck on I-5 early Saturday morning injured three. A Honda Accord, pictured, was "heavily damaged."

Drugs or alcohol were involved in a three-vehicle wreck on Interstate 5 near Longview Saturday morning that injured three people and backed up traffic past Kalama well into the late morning, according to Washington State Patrol.

Vanessa Gonzales Hernandez, Valeria A. Hinojosa and Thang Q. Nguyen of Vancouver were all taken to PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center to be treated for injuries, according to Washington State Patrol. However, all three are no longer at St. John Medical Center. It was unknown Saturday if they were sent to another hospital or treated and released.

WSP is requesting vehicular assault charges for Diego A. Cisneros, 23, of Longview. He was uninjured.

Cisneros was driving northbound on I-5 near Longview around 5:30 a.m. Saturday when he veered off the road to the right and hit a disabled semi truck on the shoulder, according to WSP. His car came to a rest in the left lane.

Nguyen, 51, was driving a third vehicle and hit Cisneros’ car. He came to a rest in the left median, according to WSP. The driver of the semi was uninjured.

Gonzales Hernandez, 20, and Hinojosa, 20, were passengers in Cisneros’ car.

Both cars were totaled, according to WSP.

The two inside lanes were closed while WSP investigated the crash, causing traffic to back up to Kalama for most of the morning.

The collision was cleared at about 10:20 a.m., according to the state Department of Transportation, but the right lane was still blocked for a while afterwards and traffic was still moving slowly.

A fire engine, two medic units and a chief officer responded from Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue.

Cowlitz County sheriff’s deputies and Kelso police also responded to the incident.

The cause of the accident was wheels off the roadway.

Another crash on I-5 Saturday morning — southbound near Kalama — occurred around 8:45 a.m. and blocked the left lane of traffic until late morning.
