Accomplished musician John Nilsen will perform a free concert starting at 4 p.m. on Sunday at Longview United Methodist Church.
The Pacific Northwest native has performed at more than 5,000 national and regional shows over the last 35 years. In 1995, Southern Oregon University gave Nilsen the Distinguished Alumnus Award in recognition of his achievements and leadership in the performing arts.
Nilsen is a pianist, guitarist, vocalist and songwriter. He founded the Magic Wing recording label in 1987, which now has a catalog of 19 successful titles, each with international distribution.
His newest release is “Local Ocean,” a collection of 11 original folk and rock compositions that “remind you of where you’ve been, but also that you’re heading somewhere uncharted.”
Nilsen’s performance on Sunday is open to the public. Before the concert, the church will collect free-will offerings and nonperishable food items for FISH of Cowlitz County, which helps local families meet their food, health and living needs.
