Slope stabilization work along State Route 4 east of Cathlamet could delay drivers traveling between Cowlitz and Wahkiakum counties Monday.
From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., both east and westbound lanes of the road near County Line Park will be closed for up to 20 minutes at a time as Washington State Department of Transportation crews work to remove loose rock and trees from the hillside.
Starting at noon on Friday, Oct. 19, WSDOT will have around-the-clock, alternating, single-lane traffic directed by flaggers, with delays of up to 20 minutes. This is expected to last through Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 5 p.m.
“This work is a necessary part of maintaining the safety and integrity of the roadway,” said WSDOT project engineer Joanna Lowrey. “While we understand that travel delays due to another project on SR 4 this year can be frustrating, this work will help ensure the roadway serves travelers for years to come.”
The project is scheduled for completion later this fall, but the work is weather dependent and could be rescheduled if severe weather interrupts the work.
