Local coffee chain Red Leaf told The Daily News Thursday that it raised more than $28,000 in cash and credit card donations during a fundraiser for the DeRosier family Wednesday across its four Cowlitz County locations. These donations do not include the 20 percent of all sales from that day that Red Leaf plans to donate to the family.
General Manager Ann Lucas said the coffee shop won't have an estimate until Friday of how much was raised during the fundraiser, but the store reported a steady stream of customers throughout the day and the line for the drive-through circled the block well into Wednesday afternoon. By 2 p.m. they reportedly had served more customers than they typically serve all day.
Lucas said several Red Leaf employees knew lifelong Kelso resident Cowlitz County sheriff's deputy Justin DeRosier, who was killed in the line of duty Saturday. Donations jars will remain available at all locations.
"The community really showed up," Lucas said. "I'm so proud to be in the Cowlitz County community."
