Bridge deck replacement work on the SR 409 Puget Island Bridge requiring overnight closures should be complete by Friday, Dec. 21, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
The work is weather-dependent and could be delayed into next year, the department said.
The bridge has been closed overnight Sunday nights through Friday mornings since April so contract work crews could replace the bridge deck. Next week, the bridge will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Friday. There is no Sunday night closure for this weekend.
The Wahkiakum County Ferry Oscar B will run during bridge closures free of charge.
Once the deck replacement is finished, additional work will continue, including repairs and installing curbing and bridge joints.
An alternating single-lane closure will remain in place around the clock outside of overnight closures for bridge painting.
A full-bridge closure will be needed to pave the bridge, which will likely happen in April 2019.
