A Longview man was arrested Wednesday after Newport police say he transported a large and varied amount of drugs into the Oregon community, according to a press release from the department Friday.

Officers used a police dog to determine an odor of narcotics coming from the personal property of William Gene Canning at a Newport home, the department said, and they obtained a search warrant.

They found one pound of methamphetamine as well as a commercial quality of heroin/fentanyl mixture, cocaine, psilocybin mushrooms, suspected LSD and numerous pharmaceutical drugs.

Canning was booked into the Lincoln County Jail on suspicion of delivery, manufacture and possession of heroin, methamphetamine, and cocaine. His bail was set at $500,000, the release said.
