The 2019 Lower Columbia College Honor Band will perform a free public concert 7 p.m. Saturday in the college’s Wollenberg Auditorium.
The band is made up of about 40 area high school students chosen by their band directors.
“These students are the outstanding students in the band from our local high schools, from Winlock to Kalama,” said Kurt Harbaugh, LCC music faculty.
The players were selected through an audition process in December, Harbaugh said. They received the concert music that month, but the only formal, full band rehearsal for the concert takes place the same day as the performance.
“It’s a good way to get the top students together to play and hear what it sounds like when everybody is dedicated (to music),” Harbaugh said.
The group will be directed by guest conductor Pat Vandehey, associate professor of music at Portland State University.
