The body of a 69-year-old Woodland man who had been missing for several days was found Wednesday morning in the Lewis River near the Lewis River RV park, according to the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office.
Stephen Orley had health problems and dementia and lived in a trailer about 100 yards upstream from where his body was found. Cowlitz County Search & Rescue volunteers found Orley’s body early Wednesday morning.
Cowlitz County Coroner Tim Davidson said the death was likely an accidental drowning.
"There was no foul play," Davidson said. "(It) looks like an accidental mishap where he wandered into the river and got swept downstream into the water."
Some of Orley’s neighbors reported that Orley had been heard yelling roughly a day before his body was found, but also said that was not uncommon for him due to his dementia.
