An elderly Longview woman lost nearly $20,000 in a dating website scam, according to police dispatch logs.

The woman’s child called Longview police Tuesday to report a “multi-faceted scam” that started on eHarmony.

According to call logs, the man contacted the woman and used “romance as a motivator.” She was told to lie to her children and gave the man access to her computer.

The man had all her credit card numbers.

Police told the victim to document all the fraudulent transactions, contact her banks and block the man’s number. She was also advised to unhook her landline phone at night.

Police called the scammer, but the man hung up on the officer, according to the call logs.

Further details were not immediately available.
