New white globes light the entrance to the Longview Police Department, but the bulk of the renovation project was turning the second floor into useful office space.

The Longview Police Department on Saturday will hold a public open house of its remodeled station, including a renovated second floor housing the Criminal Investigations Unit and Street Crimes Unit.

The open house will also include the opportunity to take photos with McGruff the Crime Dog, demonstrations and information booths from other local organizations. Attendees can learn about child identification kits, confiscated weapons, crime prevention, drug recognition, neighborhood crime statistics, on-line police reports, police and SWAT vehicles, taser demonstrations and various law enforcement agencies.

The open house will occur from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 1351 Hudson St. The Police Department asks that visitors enter the station on the 14th Avenue side of the building instead of the main entrance on Hudson Street.
