Longview police are investigating an attempted robbery with a gun in the 3000 block of Ocean Beach Highway early Wednesday morning.
A man entered a convenience store around midnight and “was pulling down the register,” according to a 911 call. That call was soon disconnected, and police later were told the suspect broke the phone.
The robber — who wore dark clothing, covered his face and was described by witnesses as about 5 foot 3 inches tall — brandished the butt end of a pistol he kept in the front pocket of his hoodie, the caller said. He eventually left the store and headed toward the apartments on Maryland Street, according to dispatchers.
It was not clear Thursday whether the man stole any money or items from the store.
Police attempted to track the robber with police dogs but were unsuccessful, according to dispatchers.
