Longview police arrested a local man Wednesday night after he allegedly strangled the woman he was dating.

The woman called police around 11 p.m. to report that Nicholas Patrick Davis, 34, of Longview assaulted her in their shared home in the 200 block of 21st Avenue, said Sgt. Chris Blanchard.

The couple had been arguing that evening, and Davis reportedly “strangled his girlfriend for a short time” while they were lying in bed, Blanchard said. Davis also reportedly damaged a bedroom door during the argument.

Davis left the home before officers arrived on scene, Blanchard said. However, officers located his car, stopped him and arrested him without incident as he was leaving the scene, Blanchard said.

Davis is being held at the Cowlitz County jail on suspicion of second-degree assault and third-degree malicious mischief.
