Don’t forget to add a little nutrition to your outgoing mail this Saturday.
More than a hundred local letter carriers and volunteers will participate in the 23rd annual Letter Carriers’ Food Drive, the nation’s largest single-day food drive.
In addition to picking and dropping off your mail, carriers and volunteers will pick up bags of nonperishable food to distribute to local food banks. Instructions and bags for the drive should arrive at local homes by Friday.
Longview food drive organizer Bob Symonds said the drive helps sustain local food banks and those who depend on them through the summer. Donations to local banks peak in the winter.
Symonds advised putting bags of food out by your mailbox by 9:30 a.m. If you don’t get your bag out by that time, carriers can pick up stragglers on Monday.
