Chris Erickson, a Kelso School District IT Support Specialist, created the design for Lex the Lexington Eagle.

The new Lexington Elementary School’s logo will feature a cartoon eagle named “Lex” who clutches a book in one talon and a pencil in the other, the Kelso School District announced Wednesday.

Chris Erickson, a district IT Support Specialist, created the design for Lex the Lexington Eagle, according to a press release.

In the press release, Superintendent Mary Beth Tack said she was “delighted” to have a mascot designed by a staff member.

“Chris’ rendition of the Lexington Eagle is friendly, strong and confident — just like our students,” Tack said in the press release.

According to the press release, the top three submissions all came from employees of the district. Barnes Elementary School teacher Megan Yarroll and maintenance department staffer Anita Caldwell’s artwork were the other top contenders.
