The Kelso School Board on Monday will accept over $20,000 in donations and review several policies.
The board will vote on a donation of $6,000 from Randy Zmrhal to purchase a new structure for the Rose Valley Elementary’s playground. The board has to vote to accept any donations greater than $5,000.
It will also vote to accept a $15,000 donation from the Weyerhaeuser Giving Fund. The money will be used to continue the district’s forestry program with Weyerhaeuser and update its greenhouse, according to agenda documents.
Bond projects at Kelso High School will also be moved forward. According to agenda documents, the board will vote to approve the KHS Gym Floor and Bleacher Replacement project for a total of $446,583 plus taxes.
The gym floor will be replaced by Western Hardwood, Inc. of Shoreline for $223,510 plus taxes, and the bleachers will be replaced by Nor-Pac Seating of Enumclaw for $223,073 plus taxes, according to the agenda.

The seating will include five banks of bleachers on the lower floor of the main gym and construction work will occur over the summer of 2020.
The board is also slated to hear an update on its new website and smartphone app.
In other business, the board will hear first readings on:
- Policy 2100 educational opportunities for military children: Updates residency requirements for student with a parent in the military.
- Policy 2195 academic acceleration: Adds detail on courses students can enroll in.
- Policy 2409 credit for competency-proficiency: Changes title of policy from “credit for competency-proficiency” to “world language competency.”
- Policy 5161 civility in the workplace: New policy outlining examples of civil and uncivil behaviors and the district’s expectations and disciplinary responses.
