A Kelso man was arrested Monday night after he told 911 dispatchers that he "possibly stabbed" another man in the back during a fight.

Cowlitz County sheriff's deputies responded to the 3400 block of North Pacific Avenue in Kelso around 10 p.m. after Richard Jacob Howard reported himself to dispatchers, Chief Criminal Deputy Troy Brightbill said Tuesday.

Howard, 36, allegedly got in a fight with the 31-year-old male victim over a vehicle, Brightbill said. The fight became physical and ended with Howard stabbing the other man in the back, he said.

The victim, who lives in Castle Rock, was able to drive away from the residence. After deputies contacted him, he went the hospital. He has serious but not life-threatening injuries, Brightbill said.

Howard was arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault with a knife.
